What to Expect at Your First Obstafit Session
Thinking about trying an outdoor bootcamp but not sure what you’re letting yourself in for? Here’s exactly what happens at your first Obstafit session at Roath Park Recreation Ground, and why your first one is free.
Before you arrive
You don’t need to be fit to start. Most of our members weren’t when they turned up for their first session. Every exercise has an easier and a harder option, so our coaches will set you up at the right level from the first minute.
Bring trainers or trail shoes with some grip (the grass gets muddy), layers you don’t mind getting dirty, and a bottle of water. That’s it. We bring all the kit.
When you get there
We meet on the recreation ground next to the playpark. Try to arrive 10 minutes early so a coach can say hello, ask about any injuries and introduce you to the group.
The session
Every session is 45 minutes. We warm up together, then work through a circuit of stations in small groups. Depending on the night, that could mean dragging tyres, carrying kegs and sandbags, kettlebells, battle ropes or rope climbs.
It’s hard work, but nobody is left at the back. The group finishes together, and you’ll be surprised how quickly you start learning everyone’s names.
Dark evenings? No problem
The pitch is floodlit, so we train right through winter. Honestly, some of the best sessions of the year are the cold, muddy ones. There’s something about finishing a session in the rain with a group of people cheering each other on.
When we train
- Tuesday 6:30pm
- Thursday 6:00pm
- Saturday 8:00am
