OCR Masters Rope Climb Review 28th Feb 16

We ran the first of our new OCR Masters Technique Sessions a few weeks ago, the Rope Climb. This session was for those that have struggled to climb a rope at races or in the gym, or for those who were looking for a more efficient technique. We taught everyone a classic technique known as the ‘S-Wrap’ which allows a personb to climb a rope without too much emphasis on the upper body.

The classic mistake that people make when climbing a rope for the first time is to rely solely on upper body strength to literally pull themselves up the rope. By the end of the session we had everyone climbing to the top using the S-Clamp technique, plus some even preferring the more advanced but quicker J-Clamp technique. It was hard work, really taxing on your grip but you all did it. Me and Mikey are so proud of everyone. We even almost had a mini emergency when Stu acquired a lovely rope burn injury on his finger, but he fought through it like a champ and got to the top of the rope.

Next Session

It’s up to you guys n gals what you want to focus on next. We can offer more rope sessions if you like, or we can pick another obstacle like the wall or the monkey bars. We will have a chat about it at bootcamp and get your thoughts!

We just want to say well done everyone. That’s Andrew, Adam, Stuart, Louise, Jo, Shane, Karen and Claire. Phillip Morris what happened to you?!
Even our guest rope expert Ross was amazed at how quickly everyone picked up the skill in your first session. That’s something to be proud of!
